Total lockdown in Guatemala May 14

New restrictions made by the Guatemalan government on May 14 don't allow us to reach out to our communities who need our help more than ever!

Having planned and organized our weekend the whole day yesterday, we were shocked by the presidential speech in the evening: For the next 3 days Guatemala will be quarantined COMPLETELY - it is not allowed to use a CAR, MOTORBIKE or do grocery SHOPPING in big supermarkets; it is only allowed to walk to next supermarket nearby. :-O

Whereas for us this is somehow "doable" (thank God, we did our own grocery shopping already yesterday), it is a CATASTROPHE for the people in need. At the beginning of this week, we visited the colonia in zone 18 which we wanted to help on SATURDAY. We wanted to check on the people BEFORE going there so that we know what their major needs are. At that day, we realized that they didnt even have ENOUGH food until help is supposed to be coming at the weekend. We are in alert now! With this new decision, which is likely to be continued on the speech to be given on Sunday, the people need us even MORE! There is a tiny light at the end of the tunnel: This week, we were also offered a special permission for our car. We are waiting for the approval!
